Case Studies
* 40 year old came to try and understand her anger, but very sceptical that anything could help her bitterness and resentment of the events life has thrown at her. Within 1 hour, which was, admittedly very emotional, she felt that she had ‘dealt’ with more in that 1 hour than she had in 18 months of counselling.
* 4 young people, aged 12 all with individual needs had a 1 ½ hour session working with two horses. A number of issues came to the surface and there was an opportunity for each of them to understand and process these issues whilst working in pairs or as a team. One youngster whose was introverted and withdrawn, was able, with the was able, with the interaction with the hores to show some assertiveness and initiatve in one particular exercise. He literally came alive in front of us.
* Another youngster, dealing with anger, was stunned to see the effect of his anger on the horses – they ‘took flight! He was able to see immediately the consequence to his behaviour
When processing the session we can talk to the youngsters and find other, more appropriate ways of releasing their emotion. But of course this works just as well for all groups, not just kids.
* A group of three teenage girls found working with three miniature ponies very challenging. It seemed to be easier to ‘give up’ and say “This is impossible” rather than try and work out a different approach to the tasks set – the first of which was simply to catch them! As you will see for the pictures the ponies were definitely playing hard to get. And the muddy field added to the challenge.
* Young man, after years of substance abuse was agoraphobic, paranoid and belligerent. After 2 Bowen sessions (see lins) and one session working with two horses he shouted “I now realise I can do anything”! He is now back in the education system and rang recently to say “thank you, particularly to the horses Fresa and Dreamcatcher.
